“Turbulence” is a track from Ollie Twist’s latest project MDLXV (1565) about the hardships and warfare experienced on the various battlegrounds of what is now the nation’s Oldest City. A full scale orchestrated assault, the cinematic beat pulses throughout the song, complemented by screaming electric guitars and vicious turntable scratching. The lyrics in many ways are the backbone of the album’s theme, discussing the origins of settlement in the Southeast on a time line of monumental and historic occurrences that shaped its political atmosphere. Intense and exciting, Hip-Hop with substance is back! Incorporating heavy underground production with sharp and cleverly tailored lyrics, MDLXV constantly pushes forward taking the listener on a wild, historic journey from beginning to end.

Lyrics

Listen, Listen, Listen
Take flight like the eagle,
Gracefully glide, sunrise over the steeple,
Atlantic waters are lethal, reflection upon the people,
Getting deep, walk the street as I creep down Cathedral,
Intersect with Charlotte, across from the market,
The first coastal city was most often a target,
Invaders came too, devastation chasing you,
Rebuilding the infrastructure, the flames came blazing through,
Down came the rain so profound the pain,
Then we founded our name, from the crown of Spain,
Charter the waters on the boarders with a battalion,
Some considered martyrs while aboard the Spanish Galleon,
Nautical miles by the thousands across the globe,
A travel to be admired, a journey that was so bold,
The deep oceans so cold, enslaved humans were sold,
For less than a piece of gold let the rest unfold.

We’ve got to keep pushing, hold on tight,
I see troubled waters ahead,
Keep moving forward armed up for the fight,
Even though the past is so far behind,
Continue on the course against the oceans force,
Nothing but troubled waters ahead,
Don’t lose balance we can make it through the challenge
Before we drown please cast out another line

Soon the land of the flowers was handed to different powers,
Back and forth was devoured and scoured while most cowered,
The source of transition was given through the accord,
City gates placed at the North face of Saint George,
That remains today, across from the cemetery,
Where many of the French Huguenots remain buried,
It was harsh existence, yet they march is resistance,
Who would launch assistance, through staunch persistence?
The robbery, the raids, colonial abduction,
How can it sustain the imprisonment, destruction?
Invading forces, floating up the intracoastal
The damage is total, but we still remain hopeful,
Surrender, we see through your evil agenda,
Watch the next contender, continue with the dilemma,
Fire off the cannons, pirates in hostile waters,
Holding down the Fort with mortars, protect the order

I see troubled waters ahead,
Keep moving forward armed up for the fight,
Even though the past is so far behind,
Continue on the course against the oceans force,
There’s nothing but troubled waters ahead,
Don’t lose balance we can make it through the challenge,
Before we drown please cast out another line

I see troubled waters ahead,
Nothing but troubled waters ahead!

That’s right, it’s Lighthouse Laboratories,
Ollie Twist, 1565, stompin’ on the coquina streets baby,
Represent, making history…

Established 1565,
War with the native tribes and they might have spared your lives,
If you converted to Catholicism, it was a saga driven,
By the Spanish Empire and their populism,
Centuries of development rooted deep in the canvas,
Mass executions on coast of the Matanzas,
Chapter of massacres, the shoreline remains,
The oldest settlement continued under European reigns,
Hurricanes and diseases would plague the pioneers,
Living in constant fear, from pirates and privateers,
The Treaty of Paris and the Seven Years War,
Now a British territory, Revolutionary War,
That was followed by a second period of Spanish rule,
Before the US made Florida a military tool,
After the Civil War another groundbreaking chapter,
The started on the railroad tracks, peace to Flagler
